Finally...The Finished Product

After a few weeks of hard work, I am proud to show you my new room! This just goes to show how a little bit of imagination and a lot of paint can go a long way!

The Brown Furniture

The pictures below might scare you a little - and they should. This is the furniture my mom and I purchased from various hotel furniture liquidator stores around New Orleans. I had never been to a hotel furniture liquidator store before, but I have to admit its a novel idea. The furniture, while usually ugly and outdated, is made well, in fabulous condition and very inexpensive. When you think about it, how often do you really sit at the desk in your hotel room?

Now I know what you're thinking - this stuff looks hideous, what was I thinking! However, with a little bit of sanding, paint, and new fabric, you will be amazed to see what can be done to this ugly brown furniture!

The Design Process

I had no idea how I wanted to decorate my new bedroom, but I knew it had to look better than before. I started out by looking through interior design magazines and blogs in the hopes of finding some great ideas. And great ideas I found - so many inspiring rooms!  All of the following rooms are from one of my favorite blogs - House of Turquoise.

As you can see, I have a passion for "white, with a pop of color!"

Design Challenge

My mother is uber obsessed with interior design, most notably fabrics (she has hundreds of swatches). I had never shared this passion with her until this summer when it came time for me to decorate my new bedroom at school. I had always had a little knack for decorating and when it came time to make decisions, I was pretty predictable (blue & white - always).  However, after seeing the previous owner's decorating, I knew my mother and I could do much better.
